Never underestimate a Greek Cheese!

February 12, 2014

Greeks eat more cheese per capita than any other nation in the world, so it is worth exploring the variety that exists. Graviera Kritis (PDO) is a lovely sheep’s milk cheese from the mountainous regions of Crete. Delicious and nutty, affordable, and low sodium to boot, this cheese is always a good buy.

I simply adore Brebichon, a farmstead sheep’s milk cheese that is oh so creamy, delicate and luscious. This apple washed cheese is an absolute must buy on every stop I make to Fromagerie Atwater in Montreal.

Roomano – the ultimate cheese candy

August 28, 2013

Several years ago I fell in love with this tasty treat, and recently returned to Murray’s Cheese shop in NYC for another bite! This delectable treat is aged several years, and has the crunchy crystal bits I love as well as intense sweet/savoury notes. As it is so aged, it travels really well, another bonus for me! So far it has not proven the easiest to find, so when you see it, grab it!

Caerphilly, a Canadian interpretation of a Welsh classic!

October 12, 2011

Caerphilly is the only traditional cheese associated with Wales, though the one profiled here was made in Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s a bright, lemony cheese that is great for snacking, drinking with a lovely wheat beer or in a sandwich or burger with mustard. No wonder this was a staple in miners’ lunches!
