Drunken Goat!

September 13, 2012

Drunken Goat, aka Queso de Murcia al Vino is essentially a lovely semi-soft goat cheese from Spain that took a bath in some red wine for a couple of days. Some days, I envy the life of this cheese.

Reypenaer: a sophisticated taste to savour

August 24, 2012

I am a lucky gal indeed, as a dear, thoughtful coworker brought me back a surprise cheese treat from her vacation. High on flavour with a divine texture to write home about, I will be savouring this treasure, dreaming of a way to get to Holland to pick some more up! Reypenaer

Primeridge Pure Pepper

June 19, 2012

I love coming across young cheesemakers – proof that artisan cheesemaking is on the rise, alive and well in Canada! Primeridge Pure is one of Ontario’s newest cheesemakers, specializing in curds and cream cheeses from their herd of Holstein cows, and have they’ve begun to delve into aged cheeses too. Certainly a cheesemaker to watch, they are young, they have energy, and no lack of creativity to boot!

Birthday Cheese!

May 13, 2012

Its my birthday and I am celebrating in the only way I know how- with cheese! I recently had an opportunity to go to a dairy, make some “camembert” and raise them at home myself. Trickier than it seems; managing humidity and temperature levels are critical yet difficult, rogue molds and yeasts are a constant battle in a home environment. One out of 5 turned out as it should and that was a divine birthday treat for sure.

Cheese Twist!

May 4, 2012

Sometimes you take a chance on a mystery cheese in a jar and get something twisted and fun! Fromagerie La Chaudière from Quebec makes Déguédine! which is essentially braided cheese twists, reminiscent of Armenian string cheese. Fun!
